In this presentation, I will discuss the expression of directionality in Yamalero (Guahiban, Colombia). I will start by introducing the language, the speakers, and my research project, as well as presenting the sociolinguistic context. Then I will show the four grammatical categories involved in the expression of directionality (verbs, postpositions, verbal suffixes and nominal suffixes), and how they use the same etymas. The semantic information encoded by these categories is also very similar, and it includes elevation (downwards, upwards, level), deictic center (itive, ventive), and goal and source. In addition to direction, some also encode motion or location. However, the morphosyntactic differences found among them suggest that an analysis treating them as separated grammatical categories is probably the best one.
